I love The Dodo and was ecstatic when a writer reached out and asked if she could write about Remington and his various signs from dog heaven. My “Soulmated so hard” video has over 1M views on Instagram. It’s an honor to be recognized for my love of animals and the impact they’ve had on my life.

Grieving Woman Gets A Sign When Someone With Familiar ‘Eyebrows’ Pays A Visit
By Ashley Ortiz
There’s nothing stronger than the bond between a human and their soul dog. For Jennifer Starr, that pup was a miniature schnauzer named Remington.
When it was sadly time to say goodbye to Remington after 15 adventure-filled years together, Starr feared their bond would break. But two weeks later, she suddenly received a sign from her late best friend in the form of an unexpected doppelganger.

Starr welcomed Remington into her life in 2009, when she was a young adult venturing into pet parenthood for the first time, and he was a 3-month-old puppy bursting with energy. She was initially nervous about how life would change with a new puppy, but Remington’s presence made it easy.
The two formed an instant connection, creating unforgettable memories wherever they went. Remington even inspired Starr to expand her business ventures from photo restoration to pet photography.
“He was a perfectly poised model and the reason I continued to pick up my camera and improve my skills every day,” Starr told The Dodo. “Remington was 100 percent my soul dog.”
Starr loved everything about Remington’s personality, from his fun-loving spirit to his expert cuddling skills. But she was especially fond of his salt-and-pepper fur and bushy white eyebrows.

Remington stuck loyally by his mom’s side for 15 years until, sadly, his health declined. He passed away on May 25, 2024, leaving behind a heartbroken mother, father and human siblings he’d helped raise.
Starr was beside herself with grief, thinking she’d never catch a glimpse of her best friend again. But two weeks later, she discovered a bird’s nest in her yard and a tiny baby with an oddly familiar face needing help.

It all started on June 11, when Starr went to check on an active birds’ nest she’d found on her property. She quickly spotted one of the baby cowbirds in a dangerous situation and rushed to help.
“He got stuck in the grates of a wagon, and so we helped him out (even though I know you are not supposed to touch a baby bird, but we had to help him get unstuck),” Starr said.
When Starr picked up the baby bird, she instantly noticed a special feature on his face that reminded her of Remington.
“[I] soulmated so hard, he sent me a baby bird with eyebrows after he died,” Starr wrote in an Instagram Reel.

The baby bird’s Remington-style eyebrows felt like a sign from the pup — one of many Starr received after his death. In addition to a dream in which Remington was healthy again, Starr and her family found a unique rock on the day he died that seemed to have a message of its own.
“We found this heart-shaped rock on a trail in Branson,” Starr said. “Of course, I took a photo because that’s what I do! A couple of days later, I looked at the photo … and I saw the profile of a schnauzer in the bottom left corner.”

The baby bird, just like the rock with the schnauzer silhouette, comforted Starr. While she missed her best friend desperately, it was nice to still feel connected to him in new ways. She nursed the baby bird back to health, admiring his bushy schnauzer-like eyebrows until he eventually flew away days later.
The baby bird hasn’t returned to Starr’s yard since, but there are still signs of Remington everywhere — including in the face of his baby brother, another schnauzer named Grady.
“Grady is our new mini schnauzer, and his birthday is May 26, 2024: serendipitously, the day after Remington passed away last year,” Starr said. “[Grady] healed my heart in ways I wasn’t expecting. He somehow feels like Remi and brings me so much peace and comfort.”

Grady’s presence has been nothing short of magical and healing. Although Remington is no longer with us, his energy is still felt daily. Whether she’s looking into Grady’s eyes or admiring the heart-shaped rock she found, Starr is constantly reminded of her late best friend in all the most comforting ways.
“I look at [them] every single day and think of Remington,” Starr said. “I’m so thankful for signs from my boy.”
